Program in American Language Studies
The Program in American Language Studies (PALS) at the New Brunswick/Piscataway Campus provides intensive instruction in the English language to a variety of learners: students preparing to pursue higher studies in the US, international professionals working to enhance their English-language proficiency, and members of the local business community. Enrollment is open throughout the year.
New students are tested for placement into an appropriate level of instruction in reading, writing, phonology/fluency, listening, speaking, and vocabulary. Courses are organized in eight different levels of competency and each student has an individual schedule matched to his/her level of competency. PALS also prepares students for TOEFL and GRE exams.
Students who need Form I-20 to apply for F-1 non-immigrant entry visas/status must enroll in a full course of study (a minimum of one semester with 20 class hours per week). Students without visa considerations may enroll full-time or part-time.
PALS conducts two Summer Sessions (Session V & Session VI). The schedule is as follows:
Session V: May 29 – July 3, 2009
Payment Deadline: May 22, 2009
Testing Date: May 26, 2009Session VI: July 14 – August 18, 2009
Payment Deadline: July 2, 2009
Testing Date: July 7, 2009
In Summer 2009, PALS will also be offering a special continuing education course - Certificate in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). This program has two segments – theory, which is delivered online, and a practicum conducted through PALS.
